Regent Centre Metro station early evening closures Monday-Thursday 7 September-29 October
Regent Centre station will close at 9.00pm each evening Monday to Thursday on the dates listed below, to allow for station refurbishment work. When the station is closed trains will run through the station without stopping.

When the station is closed a replacement bus service 901 will be running between Regent Centre and South Gosforth in both directions.

If you wish to travel from Regent Centre towards the Airport when the station is closed, please travel to South Gosforth on the replacement bus service and continue your journey by Metro. If you are travelling from the direction of the Airport and wish to leave the train at Regent Centre, please stay on the train until South Gosforth and travel back to Regent Centre on the replacement bus service.
Metro tickets and passes will be valid on the replacement bus and the driver will sell tickets.
If you are travelling using a Pop card and are starting your journey at Regent Centre show the replacement bus driver your Pop card (the Metro station will be closed so you will not be able to tap in), when you arrive at South Gosforth if you intend to travel further using Metro, remember to tap in on the station validator to begin your journey. If you plan to travel to Regent Centre on the replacement bus after travelling on Metro, remember to tap out at South Gosforth, before boarding the replacement bus service.
Your journey will take longer so please leave extra travelling time.

Metro service update - Green Line
Trains are now on the move, subject to delays on the Green Line due to an Ambulance attending in the Sunderland area. We are working to resolve this and will resume the timetable as soon as possible. We're sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
St Peter’s lift outages Wednesday 16 September
The lift on platform 1 at St Peter’s will be out of service from 8.00am until 11.00am on Wednesday 16 September. The lift on platform 2 will be out of service from midday until 3.00pm on Wednesday 16 September.
Step free access when platform 1 lift is out of use
If you wish to travel from St Peter’s towards Sunderland, board a train from platform 2 to Stadium of Light, change platform and continue your journey.
If you wish to leave the train at St Peter’s platform 1, please stay on the train to Sunderland, change platform and return to St Peter’s platform 2.
Step free access when platform 2 lift is out of use
If you wish to travel towards Newcastle from St Peter’s, board a train from platform 1 to Sunderland, change platform and continue your journey.
If you wish to leave the train at St Peter’s platform 2, stay on the train to Stadium of Light, change platform and return to St Peter’s platform 1.

Fellgate platform 1 lift outage
The lift on platform 1 at Fellgate will be out of service from 10.00am on Friday 18 September until the start of service on Tuesday 22 September.
If you require step free access and wish to travel from Fellgate platform 1, please travel from platform 2 to Pelaw, change platform and travel back towards Fellgate to continue your journey. If you require step free access and want to travel to Fellgate platform 1, please stay on the train to Brockley Whins, change platform and travel back to Fellgate platform 2. If using the alternative stations is not suitable for you please contact us on the station Help Point.
Your journey will take longer so please leave extra time for travel.
Night works
To ensure our train service continues to run we need to carry out regular maintenance and improvement works on and around our tracks. Some work can be done during the day, but often work can only be completed safely when the train service is not running. This means we work overnight and during planned line closures.
The type of work taking place includes inspections, patrolling the tracks, lineside management, maintenance and renewal work and cleaning. Sometimes the work generates noise which residents or businesses near to the Metro line may be able to hear.
*Amendment to night works for Tuesday 15 September AM. Vegetation/tree removal works involving chainsaws, strimmers and woodchipper between South Gosforth and Ilford Road.*

Barrack Road Closures for Newcastle United home fixtures – Routes 12, 39, 40, 62, 63: August 2026 to May 2027
On Newcastle United home match days, Barrack Road, between Gallowgate and Stanhope Street, will be closed in both directions from approximately 15 minutes prior to the scheduled finish of the match until up to 45 minutes after the actual final whistle. This is to allow for the safe dispersal of fans from St. James’ Park into the wider City Centre area.
These closures will start with the friendly fixtures on Saturday 15 August (3:00pm kick off) and Sunday 16 August (4:00pm kick off)
For full details of diversions for Services 12, 39, 40, 62 and 63 – please refer to Stagecoach North East website for full details.
For example, for a 3:00pm kick off, the expected closure time would be between 4:30pm until approximately 5:30pm, and for a 7:45pm kick off, the expected closure time would be between 9:15pm and approximately 10:15pm. The exact closure times would be governed by event control and Northumbria Police on that day. These closures are also expected to be in place for other large events at St. James’ Park.
Westheath Avenue/Hereford Road, Sunderland – Disruption to Service 10: Monday 7 September 2026 until Friday 25 September 2026
From Monday 7 September 2026 for a period of approximately three weeks, the junction of Westheath Avenue and Hereford Road in Sunderland will be closed due to concrete repair works.
During these works, Stagecoach Service 10 will be diverted and is unable to serve the bus stops at Westheath Avenue – Hereford Road and Hereford Road.
Customers are advised to board these services at the bus stops on Hills View Road.

William Armstrong Drive/Violet Close junction on the A695 Scotswood Road, Newcastle
Newcastle City Council works on the William Armstrong Drive/Violet Close junction on the A695 Scotswood Road will start on Monday 14 September, lasting 14 weeks. Working hours will typically be Monday to Friday between approximately 8am and 4pm with occasional weekend working.
Because of these works, there may be some localised delays to Go North East service 12 and Stagecoach services 22/22X

Thursday, 13 November 2025 – until further notice: Routes 10, 12, 50 and E1 – Closure of River Drive bridge (Heugh Street)
Closure of River Drive bridge (Heugh Street) until further notice.
So that structural inspection work can take place, the following alterations will continue to apply to services 10, 12, 50 and E1:
Stagecoach Service 10 will operate via Keppel Street, Fowler Street, Winchester Street, Anderson Street, Coston Drive and Mile End Road, then run a one-way loop via Palatine Street, River Drive, Mile End Road and Coston Drive, before resuming the normal Service 10 route towards Jarrow.
Stagecoach Services 12 and E1 will continue to operate via alternative routes. Customers are advised to use South Shields Interchange (12 and E1) or Ocean Road (E1 only).
Go North East Sunday Service 50 is currently operating from South Shields Interchange to River Drive via Mile End Road.
These arrangements apply until further notice.

What happens when the Shields Ferry is not operating
If we are unable to operate the ferry crossing between North Shields and South Shields because of eg severe fog, stormy conditions on the river, or if there is a technical issue with the vessels, we will endeavour to provide a replacement bus where possible.

The buses run on the hour and half past the hour from each ferry landing.

Please note that these are the same as the normal ferry times from North Shields, but are not the same as the normal ferry times from South Shields. This is of course because the replacement bus service takes longer than the ferry to travel between the two landings via the Tyne Tunnel.
From South Shields the buses depart from the bus stop on Ferry Street, outside the former BT building, stop number 42S32.
From North Shields the buses depart from the bus stop on North Quay at the end of the ferry landing, stop number 41080. It will also stop on request at the bus stop at the top of Borough Road.
Bikes
Unfortunately, bikes are not allowed on these buses. We suggest cyclists use the Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel instead.
